Since we want that the jewellery we create to stand the test of time, we use only the best materials available to us. High karat gold will never tarnish and be enjoyable for future generations to come, just as our timeless designs.

What is equally important to us is how those incredibly durable and unearthly beautiful materials come into our hands, with which we craft every piece. 

The conflict

The extraction of precious gemstones and gold is an invasive process. Common mining practices often involve the destruction of landscapes, the displacement of communities and even child labour. In most cases, due to complex trade structures, the provenance of materials and the mining conditions are impossible to trace back. 

Our approach

There are, though, a growing number of initiatives that strive to change this negative impact and instead turn mining into an opportunity to improve livelihoods and environmental protection in the often remote areas of origin. For our jewellery only completely traceable materials coming from artisanal and small-scale mining are being used.

In the case of gold, it is always provenance certified and coming from small mining projects that maintain high social and environmental standards, such as Fairtrade® Gold. The coloured gemstones and diamonds come from small international businesses, that buy directly from licensed miners in order to empower them and leave as much profit as possible at the source instead of with the many traders that are usually involved.

We believe that real sparkle comes from within, it is the intrinsic value of materials, intentions and actions that together form every piece of LURI jewellery.
